07 Linking chronic noise and learning impairment Gary W. Evans, Design and Environmental Analysis, linked excessive noise with impairment in children's reading ability and long-term memory in a first of its kind study. This long-term study of the same children before and after living near airports in Munich, Germany, established that airport noise adversely affects reading, memory, attention, and speech perception in children. Among several studies, this one provides further and stronger evidence that exposure to chronic noise can have critical health, learning, and motivational effects in children and adults. > Back / > Next Article / > Back to Listing © 2003 by the Office of the Vice Provost for Research [OVPR], Cornell University. | | 314 Day Hall Ithaca, New York 14853-2801 P: 607.255.7200 F: 607.255.9030 E: VP Research C: Credits | ||||||||
