13 Finding Upstate New York Family-Friendly
  Phyllis E. Moen, Human Development/Sociology, and colleagues in the Cornell Careers Institute conducted a study that revealed Upstate New York as a family-friendly region. Families cite moderate cost of living, safety, job opportunities, proximity to jobs, and community amenities such as parks, libraries, and public events as top reasons for choosing Upstate New York. The study found that the standard of living a $50,000 annual income buys in Rochester, NY, costs $75,000 in Los Angeles and $104,000 in Manhattan.
